Psychiatric Medication Therapy
At MPA, our psychiatrists specialize in Psychiatric Medication & Treatment issues for our patients in the Montgomery River Region.
Montgomery Psychiatry & Associates (MPA) is located in Montgomery, Alabama.
Psychotropic Drug Treatment
Our staff of clinicians at MPA are highly trained and familiar with the different medication options available for the treatment of mental health disorders.
After a thorough psychiatric consultation & assessment, MPA clinicians may prescribe psychotropic drugs, a type of psychiatric medicine, intended to improve mood, control negative behaviors, and reduce other unwanted symptoms associated with a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
Examples of psychotropic drugs include:
- ADHD drugs
- Anti-anxiety medications
- Mood stabilizers
Medication & Psychotherapy
Psychiatric medications are prescription medications, requiring a prescription from one of our psychiatrists or psychiatric nurse practitioners, PMHNPs, before they can be obtained.
Psychotropic (or psychotherapeutic) medications may also make other kinds of treatment more effective, such as ongoing "talk therapy" sessions.
MPA will work closely with you to deliver a mutually agreed-upon treatment program. Some patients are treated with medication management alone, and others with a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
Medication Management & Follow-up
Like any medication, psychiatric medications do not produce the same effect in everyone.
Some patients will respond better to one medication than another. Other patients may require larger doses than others. There are many factors that can influence a medication’s effect.
If neccessary, MPA will take steps to monitor the safety and efficacy of your psychotropic medications including:
- Follow-up patient assessments
- Comprehensive reviews of prescriptions and possible interactions or side effects
- Communication with other service providers to maintain a high standard of care between medical professionals
